In the 70’s Moto Guzzi participated successfully in many reliability and racing events. Here, the concept for the Moto Guzzi 850 Le Mans was born. Its aim was to inspire the motorcycle rider with ambitions for road racing. This aim was achieved thanks to the typical features of this new model: power, stability of frame and suspension plus safe handling.
The two cylinder 90°-V 4 cycle engine has an output of 70 hp@ 7000 rpm and achieves a speed of more than 205 km/h. Its 5 gear drive has the long transmission and perfect grading of a racer. A powerful integral braking system provides a reduction of the stopping distance by 20%. This system works with a hydraulic connection of the left front brake disc and the rear brake disc, which are activated by the foot brake, whereas the right brake disc is controlled by the hand lever.
The aluminium cast wheels, the punched brake discs, the small handle bar and the red varnishing underline the sporty outfit. The rider has the feeling to sit on a thoroughbred racer, which was modified for touring.
After its presentation at the 1975 Milan Show it became a very popular bike until today. As the "red rocket” sold very well, five editions were produced, so that in nomenclature the primary version received the number 'I'. Nowadays exactly this initial version is most wanted among collectors.
