Developed out of Ferrari's GTO Evoluzione project, the F40 LM Competizione is a full-house competition version of the sublime F40 and should theoretically have been suitable for a wide-range of racing series. However, with the demise of Group B and sportscar racing in crisis during the late 1980's, Ferrari customers were left with very few options for their cars. After a brief spell contesting North America's IMSA GT series, It seemed the F40 Competizione would never be able to fulfill its potential. As it turned out though, the F40 eventually logged several good racing seasons long after production of the road-going version had ceased.
The F40 Competizione was very similar to its street version except for two big air intakes on the bonnet. It placed 2
nd three times, 3
rd twice and came in 5
th once when it competed at the IMSA GT series.
Only 18 F40 Competizione were built. Most of the cars went to personal collections and museums. It’s a unique piece both in reality and in 1:18
th scale!
